4 Of The Creepiest Abandoned Places In The UK
People all around the world abandoned their homes for various reasons, some, because they just take off to pastures new and other people go missing in the dark of the night without a word.
Other people just up sticks and leave half-finished construction sites to wallow away into nothingness after hundreds of thousands of pounds have been ploughed into them.
When a house, building site, hospital, whatever is left abandoned, as you can imagine they start to become rather rundown and look pretty terrible but it’s nothing that a few new windows and doors can’t sort out!
Here are what we think are 6 of the creepiest abandoned houses and building in the UK.
Whittingham Hospital – Preston
Founded in 1869 in Whittingham near Preston, Lancashire, Whittingham hospital is now abandoned but it grew to become the largest mental hospital in Britain. In its heyday it had its own farms, church, railway, telephone exchange, post office brewery, orchestra and butchers.
It finally closed its doors in 1995 after a long investigation into abuse and scandal in the hospital.

Brean Down Fort – Somerset
This fort was built 9 miles south of Weston-super-Mare in the 1860s as a part of the Palmerston Forts which were built to provide protection to the ports of the Bristol Channel. It was decommissioned in 1901 and was later rearmed during WWII and used for experimental weapons testing.
Since 2002 the site has been owned by the National Trust.

Camelot Theme Park – Chorley
First opened in 1983 and finally shut down in 2012 due to lack of visitors, the Camelot Theme Park is still standing, for the time being.
There were a few accidents that happened at the theme park in the 00s. One man, a member of staff was struck by ‘The Gauntlet’ roller coaster in 2001 and killed, the park was fined £40,000 and there was also a boy who was struck by a bus in the car park in 2004 and was also killed.

Hellingly Hospital – East Sussex
This hospital was opened quite late compared to a number of other similar asylums. It was opened on July 20th, 1903 for a cost of £353,400. If an abandoned asylum is enough to creep you then one with a name like Hellingly Asylum should add to the creepiness even more!
The asylum was self-sufficient for years and it even had its own tram and railway.
